

Paddle through shifting ecosystems, from reed-fringed lagoon and sandy spits to bushland and farmland along the Bega River. Travelling at a pace suited to the group, we’ll take time to enjoy the natural habitat, with egrets, azure kingfishers and white-bellied sea eagles often spotted along the way. Part way through, we’ll land ashore to stretch our legs, enjoy morning tea and perhaps even have a swim.

Bega’s Hidden River & Lagoon Wilderness
This unique tour ventures into an underrated wilderness, guiding you from a hidden forest of reeds into an expansive lagoon system. You’ll land on secluded sand spits and explore pristine river islands, discovering a diverse, untouched habitat where egrets fish and sea eagles soar.

A Guided Paddle for Beginners and Experienced Kayakers
Your expert guide will lead the way, with all kayaking equipment and safety gear provided. No previous kayaking experience is needed, although this is an active experience best suited to guests with moderate fitness and good balance.

Relax and Refresh with Morning Tea
Morning tea includes plunger coffee, black leaf tea or peppermint leaf tea, sugar and local full cream milk from Tilba Real Dairy. We include seasonal fruit and a locally made sweet treat from Wild Rye’s, as well as fruit juice. Special dietary requirements can be catered for upon request, just let us know at time of booking.

Honoring Culture & Country
Five dollars from every booking is donated directly to the Bega Local Aboriginal Land Council. Your contribution funds vital projects dedicated to conserving the region’s natural environment and preserving the rich Indigenous culture and heritage of this beautiful landscape.

Departure Location & Facilities
Blackfellows Lagoon Boat Ramp, Kalaru. There are no toilets or water taps at the meeting location. The closest public toilets can be found at Evans Park Kalaru including an accessible toilet.

Driving time from: Eden 40min, Merimbula 25min, Bega 20min, Tathra 5min, Bermagui 35min & Canberra 3hrs.
What to Wear/Bring
- Hat, sunglasses, reef-safe sunscreen
- Closed-toe shoes (reef shoes or old trainers) are needed. We have some you can borrow.
- Wear a shirt with shorts or 3/4 length pants. Bring warm layers if it’s cold. We have rain gear you can borrow. If you plan to swim, wear your swimmers and bring a towel
- Water bottle

We require a minimum of 4 guests for Bega River Kayak Tours. If booking for fewer than 4, please contact us to check availability, or book and pay for 4 guests to guarantee your departure. We require a minimum of 4 guests to confirm a tour, but don’t worry if you’re booking for less!
If your group is smaller than four (especially outside of school holidays), please contact us. We’ll gladly check our schedule to see if we can combine your booking with another confirmed group.
If the minimum of 4 guests isn’t met three days before the departure, we’ll email you with your options: transfer to another confirmed tour time, receive a full refund, or pay the equivalent of 4 guests to guarantee your private departure.
Notification and Options for Unconfirmed Tours
If your tour has not met the minimum requirement of 4 guests three days before the scheduled departure, we will notify you by email with the following options:
- Guarantee the departure: You can choose to pay for the additional empty spots needed to reach the minimum number. Note: If more guests book onto the tour before departure this additional payment may be refunded to you.
- Transfer Your Booking: Move your booking to another date that has a confirmed departure.
- Full Refund: Cancel your booking and receive a complete refund.
Cancellations Due to Weather or Operations
Navigate Expeditions may cancel the Service at any time by email or text message, for any one of the following reasons:
- If the number of guests booked to participate in the Services does not meet the minimum number;
- If extreme weather conditions such as heavy rainfall, extreme heat, strong winds, typhoons, sudden temperature shifts and fog are predicted or experienced;
- If a state or national lockdown exists, such as for an epidemic or security reasons, preventing the guest’s travel to the place of departure of the tour;
Then Navigate Expeditions will provide a full refund of the booking cost in full satisfaction of all claims the guest may have arising from the cancellation.
Public Holiday Surcharge
A 10% surcharge will be applied to all bookings on NSW Public Holidays to help offset the increased wage expenses incurred on these days.

Accessibility and Assistance
Our expert kayak guides are trained to assist all guests in entering and exiting the kayaks safely and with dignity. If your group has specific requirements or needs, please contact us in advance. This allows us to discuss your requirements in detail and make necessary arrangements to ensure your kayaking experience is both enjoyable and comfortable. Additionally, we may be able to assist with meeting NDIS goals; please contact us to discuss.
Kayak Types and Preferences
We offer single, double, and triple kayaks for our tours. Please indicate your preference on your booking form. For children aged 10 and under, we recommend the stability and shared experience of a double kayak with an accompanying adult. Our kayak fleet also includes single and double kayaks equipped with outrigger stabilising floats for enhanced stability.
Swimming Ability and Safety
While being able to swimming is not a requirement, guests who are unable to swim must let us know on the booking form. This allows us to ensure extra safety measures are in place.
Assistance Animals and Pets
For safety reasons, trained assistance animals and pets are not permitted inside the kayaks.
